Excited about your classes!

Dear VI Form -

Get excited about your college classes and stay excited about your SAS
classes!

Congratulations! You've been admitted to college. Generally this is
acknowledged to be a Very Good Thing. It can, however, bring with it some
challenges. Fortunately, SAS does not see a lot of senior slide. We do,
however, sometimes hear admitted seniors describe how they are having
trouble getting excited for leaving SAS and going to college, or,
conversely, how they now feel a bit removed from their SAS work and are
just waiting for college to start. Perhaps surprisingly, we've found that
these seemingly opposite feelings often come from the same source - a
difficulty in concretely picturing the connection and continuity between
SAS and your college work.

Some of you are seriously considering a gap year - excellent! If you want
to chat with any of us about that possibility we would love to help you
reflect. For those of you who intend to begin your college classes next
fall, we've heard from past seniors that doing the following can really
help:

1. Shop around in your college's course catalog, perhaps even "choose"
your college classes.
2. Reflect on how your current classes might inform your future classes.
3. Reflect on your goals for your first semester, and how what you do now
can help get you ready.

Want to do some of this with your college counselor? Definitely drop us an
email and ask! Going through this exercise has an several concrete
benefits - it keeps you psyched about your work at SAS, it gets you ready
for choosing your classes (which you have to do soon enough anyway), and
it prepares you for a powerful start to your college career.

Hope this helps, and again, congratulations!
