College process information extraordinaire!

Dear Form of 2010 and parents,

Greetings from the college counselors. The response to our V Form college
information session has been tremendous. The college representatives were
all impressed by the V Form's insight and energy. For those of you who
were not able to attend, we have a set of materials available, as well as
a wealth of information on the college process, on our website: [
http://www.standrews-de.org/cc ]www.standrews-de.org/cc. We hope you find
the site convenient and useful. Thank you, parents, for your feedback on
the session; we look forward to using it to make this day even more
helpful in the future.

Fifth formers, in order to get to know each of you better, and to help you
form more profound insights into your own values and goals, we are asking
you to complete an autobiographical questionnaire. Please sign onto [

]connection.naviance.com/standrews-de, and click on "autobiographical
questionnaire." Make sure to save early and often, and do not feel
obligated to complete it in one sitting. In fact, have fun with it! Check
it out soon, then talk with your folks and friends about it and come back
to it several times. Many previous students have found it rewarding.

When you turn in your questionnaire (anytime over break, but certainly
before you return to school) we will respond with an appointment with your
college counselor. We are excited that Mrs. Schuller will be returning in
the 2009-2010 school year as our Senior Associate Director. As you know,
Mrs. Schuller is a veteran college counselor. She has directed the college
counseling office and has been our director of testing. She brings her
understanding of the college side from her work at Mount Holyoke College.
Ms. Ross and Mr. Gilheany will be working closely with Mrs. Schuller and
her counselees this spring.

In your box we have also put your PSAT results, which as you recall
colleges do not see. (Parents,we have enclosed these results with this
letter.) You can use your test to get a sense of what sections of the SAT
Reasoning test need your closer attention. You may want to play with the
free online test prep program the School provides, [
http://www.mystudentedge.com ]www.mystudentedge.com , registration code
BRNPGHMY. If you or your parents feel that you need non-standard testing
accommodations, please speak with Mr. Gilheany as soon as you can, since
the process takes about six months and requires complex interaction with
the College Board bureaucracy.

Parents, you may be wondering how you can help at this stage. To help, we
have included with this letter a checklist for the winter and early
spring, both for your child and for you. We are also including a parent
questionnaire, available as well as a .doc on our website for those who
would prefer to email it. You know your children better than anyone, and
we look forward to your sharing your insights with us. Finally, please
always feel free to call or email us with ideas and questions.

We wish you the happiest and most peaceful of holidays.

Sincerely,

Terence Gilheany Candy Schuller
