Perhaps you've been wondering...
What if I'm admitted into the second semester or into an introductory
program?
Some small colleges may admit you under the condition that you enroll in
the second semester. This is commonly called a "Feb Admit" or "Jan Plan
Admit" by the colleges who make these offers. This is great news! First,
consider that you have been admitted! Second, allow yourself to imagine
all the terrific options that you can pursue next fall. If this school
would have been your first choice of the schools that accepted you if they
had offered you fall admission, we would challenge you to think about
whether anything significant has truly changed.
Some larger colleges might admit you to their "College of General Studies"
rather than the division (ie, "Arts and Sciences") to which you applied.
This is also great news! Colleges of General Studies are usually two-year
programs of core curricula taught by dedicated teachers in small classes.
As long as you do well in those classes, you then will technically
"transfer" to the division to which you originally applied. Essentially,
you get more personal, SAS-like teaching and advising the first two years,
and still get to graduate in four years with the same degree as if you had
been enrolled in the division to which you had applied in the beginning.
So congratulations on these interesting opportunities!
