So you've received a letter or an email from something called the
"National Youth Leadership Program" or one of several other programs that
sound like that. The letter sounds like you have won an honor, or could
win an honor if you applied.
These programs are not awards - they are fairly expensive commercial
ventures. They do what they say they do, so they are not scams, and some
students have enjoyed them in the past. But weigh them equally with your
other opportunities this summer. Especially if you either have an
internship or have a plan to work full time (two things the colleges
really respect), you may want to seriously consider sticking with your
current plans.
